One of the world's largest waterfall systems as a sports backdrop: walkways take you to the very lip of the Garganta del Diablo, and a Zodiac drives you into the spray right beneath the falls. The highest mountain outside Asia: even the trek to Plaza de Mulas base camp at around 4,300 metres demands proper acclimatisation. Going higher takes a permit, time and expedition logistics.
