Spots in Denmark

Klitmøller (Cold Hawaii)

Nordjütland · Surfing, Windsurfing, SUP · Best time: Aug–Nov

Northern Europe's densest wave region: on the nose of Thy, swell and wind hit a dozen reef and beach breaks packed close together. Autumn lows deliver the most powerful surf for experienced riders, while summer is prime time to learn. 5/4+3 wetsuit mandatory. October brings the most powerful swells.

Bornholm

Bornholm · Cycling, Climbing, Kayaking · Best time: May–Sep

A Baltic island with a surprising amount of sport per square kilometre: granite climbing in the old Vang quarry, plus kayak legs along the rocky northern coast. The dense bike path network ties it all together — you can skip the car all week. Coastal bike path (105 km) in 2 days with smoked fish breaks.

Møns Klint

Sjælland · Kayaking, Hiking · Best time: May–Sep

White chalk cliffs up to 128 metres above turquoise-tinted water — from a kayak the wall feels like another country. Up top, forest trails link the viewpoints; down below you switch between paddling and hunting fossils on the beach. Kayaking at the base of the cliffs — view from below is insane.

Jütland / Thy

Nordjylland · Surfing, Kitesurfing · Best time: Aug–Nov

Denmark's rugged corner: miles of sandy beaches, dunes and a North Sea that serves up everything from mellow whitewater to serious autumn waves. The spots sit close together — just switch car parks to match the wind and your level. Vorupør for big waves, Nørre Vorupør for beginners.

Roskilde / Fjord

Sjælland · Kayaking, Sailing, Cycling · Best time: May–Sep

Sheltered fjord water instead of open North Sea: Roskilde Fjord is shallow, protected and dotted with small islands — ideal for relaxed kayaking and sailing days. Around it, quiet bike routes roll through Zealand's gentle hills. Roskilde Fjord kayak — Viking Ship Museum as starting point.

Hvide Sande / Ringkøbing Fjord

Westjütland · Windsurfing, Kitesurfing, Surfing · Best time: May–Oct

A strip of land barely a kilometre wide: North Sea waves on one side, waist-deep flat fjord water on the other. Ringkøbing Fjord is about as relaxed a place to learn windsurfing and kiting as you'll find in Europe — and once it clicks, you cross over to the wave side. Westwind centres at three spots (Hvide Sande North, South, Bork Havn) rent gear and run courses. On the fjord side you can stand almost everywhere — perfect while your waterstart is still a work in progress.

Rømø

Süddänemark · Kitesurfing, Windsurfing, SUP · Best time: Apr–Oct

The beach is so wide you drive your car right to the waterline and rig your kite at the trunk. Flat to slightly choppy water and steady westerlies make the island ideal for learning and freestyle — the best wind hits in spring and autumn. The hard-packed sand also hosts kite buggying, basically the island's signature machine. Kite only in the designated zone — everything around it is UNESCO Wadden Sea, and the rules are taken seriously.

Silkeborg / Søhøjlandet

Midtjylland · Kayaking, MTB, SUP · Best time: May–Sep

Søhøjlandet is Denmark's Lake District: around 50 lakes strung together by the Gudenå, the country's longest river. Barely any current, clear water, riverside campsites — perfect for your first multi-day kayak or canoe trip. And since Silkeborg calls itself Denmark's outdoor capital, proper MTB trails wait in the Nordskoven forest right outside town. A day trip by canoe on the Gudenå is a relaxed 15–20 km — Silkeborg Kanocenter rents boats year-round.

Südfünisches Inselmeer (Svendborg)

Fünen · Kayaking, Sailing, SUP · Best time: May–Sep

55 islands in sheltered Baltic water — the South Funen Archipelago is considered Denmark's most beautiful sea kayaking territory. The classic: paddle from Svendborg to Skarø, Drejø and Avernakø, between fishing villages and shelter sites. If you want more, take on the 100 km queen stage "Øhavet Rundt" — calm water, but the island crossings need planning. Svendborg, Faaborg, Rudkøbing and Ristinge have Kayakomat stations — rent a sea kayak via app, around the clock.

Amager Strandpark (Kopenhagen)

Hauptstadtregion · Kitesurfing, Windsurfing, SUP · Best time: May–Sep

Copenhagen's watersports living room: the lagoon serves up flat water for learning to kite and windsurf, while outside Baltic chop waits over a clean sandy bottom. Rentals, schools and showers right on the beach, plus SUP and kayaks for low-wind days. The kicker: you simply combine it all with a city trip and cycle back into town in the evening. Take metro line M2 to "Amager Strand" — you're at the spot in a good ten minutes from the city centre.

Fælledparken (Kopenhagen)

Østerbro, Kopenhagen · Skateboarding, BMX, Inline Skating · Best time: Apr–Oct

Municipal 4,500 sqm concrete facility in Fælledparken, split into a street, a flow and a ramp section. There has been a skatepark here since 1988 and the full rebuild was completed in 2011; free to use, toilets on site, scooters are not permitted. Navigate to Edel Sauntes Allé 3 — if it rains, the municipal Copenhagen Skatepark indoor hall in Kongens Enghave is the fallback, but it closes from 1 June to 1 September.
