Seven miles of sand running out into cliffs: at the West End you leap from rock ledges of up to ten metres into deep-blue water — Rick's Café is the famous stage for it — and snorkel reefs just off the coast. Sunset included, nerve at your own expense. Seven Mile Beach + cliffs at Rick's Café — jumps up to 10 m.
Norden · Waterfall climbing, Scuba Diving · Best time: Nov–Apr
Waterfall climbing as a national pastime: at Dunn's River Falls you climb limestone terraces hand in hand, straight up through the flowing water — early in the morning the falls are almost yours. Then dive reefs and wrecks off the north coast. Touristy, but a classic for good reason. Dunn's River Falls early — climb the terraces before the buses.
Norden · Rafting, SUP · Best time: Nov–Apr
Gentle water sport instead of adrenaline chasing: on the Martha Brae, captains pole you through the rainforest on bamboo rafts, and at sea you SUP across seagrass meadows and reefs. Saint Andrew · Surfing · Best time: Nov–Mar
This is where Jamaica's surf scene actually lives — not in the resorts. Bull Bay serves up Copa and Zoo, two breaks that go glassy and up to double overhead in winter, and the Jamnesia crew, Jamaica's longest-running surf school, takes total beginners just as happily as people finally working on their turns. Under 30 minutes out of Kingston, zero tourist circus on the beach. From November to March the waves stay glassy all day — in summer only early morning, after that the wind wrecks it.
Saint Thomas · Hiking, Trekking · Best time: Dec–Apr
2,256 metres and roughly 11 kilometres of climbing through cloud forest — and you walk the whole thing in the dark. Nothing technical here, it's just long, steep and permanently damp; solid shoes and a rain jacket are plenty. Up top you catch sunrise on Jamaica's highest point, usually above the cloud layer. Set off around 2 a.m. with a headlamp — the summit is basically only cloud-free right around sunrise.

Jamaica's north coast dives better than its reputation, and Runaway Bay is where it shows: the wall at the Canyon, easygoing coral at Ricky's Reef, and the "Ganja Planes", a wreck site made of crashed smuggler aircraft. In the dry season no rain washes sediment in, so visibility holds. Works for an Open Water course just as well as for your first wreck dive. Ask about the "Ganja Planes" — crashed smuggler aircraft that sit on the bottom here as a dive site.
Trelawny · Cave tours, Hiking · Best time: Dec–Apr
Cockpit Country is Jamaica's enchanted karst — conical hills, sinkholes, barely a marked path. Windsor Great Cave runs about three kilometres into the mountain: a stream, slick guano floor, total darkness and a bat colony above your head. This is not a stroll with your phone light, it's a guided caving trip — and the old Cockpit trails outside are there to hike afterwards. Nobody goes in without checking in with the cave warden — and pack a dust mask: over 100,000 bats leave guano behind, and the histoplasmosis risk is real.
Saint Elizabeth · Swimming, Cycling, Running · Best time: Nov–Apr
South coast without a single all-inclusive: five coves, brown sand streaked with black magnetite, fishing boats instead of banana boats. You swim long lines out here, ride laps on the dusty back roads and run the coast at first light — exactly the combination the Jakes Off-Road Triathlon tests in late April. The quietest sport base on the island. Late April brings the Jakes Off-Road Triathlon here — 2026 was already its 30th edition.
