A trade-wind town behind historic walls: the wide bay gets wind almost daily — in summer so reliably that kiters and windsurfers can plan sessions like a timetable. Erg Chebbi stacks its dunes up to around 150 metres: board down the sand slopes, ride a camel into a desert camp and walk the crest lines at first light before the sun takes over. The bay at Imsouane produces one of Morocco's longest waves — a gentle, endlessly rolling ride made for longboards and your first hundred bottom turns. Limestone walls rising up to 300 metres above the palm-filled wadi: hundreds of sport routes across nearly all grades, many right beside the road — approaches in minutes, not hours. The Ouzoud falls drop around 100 metres into the gorge in several tiers — North Africa's highest waterfalls. The blue city is the gateway to the Rif mountains: right behind the alleys, paths climb the local peak Jebel El-Kelaa and enter Talassemtane National Park with its cedar forests and the God's Bridge rock arch. A red stone arch, an endless beach, hardly any people: Legzira is Morocco's surf coast in rough-cut form. The beach breaks work best on winter swell; schools and boards are in nearby Sidi Ifni. If you're done with the Taghazout crowds, here you'll find space and quiet. Red rock arches & empty waves in the south.
