Scandinavia's alpine classic with two faces: World-Championship-tested descents and a long season in winter, and in summer one of northern Europe's biggest bike parks plus the trail network around Åreskutan. A Baltic island built for cycling: flat lanes between poppy fields, limestone coasts with the famous rauk sea stacks and calm bays for kayaking. Climbers find a small but fine playground on the seaside limestone. Fårö by bike — Bergman's island, dramatic rauk coastline.
Västernorrland · Hiking, Kayaking · Best time: Jun–Sep
Where the land has been rising since the Ice Age: steep granite hills drop straight into the Baltic, with long-distance hiking stages, cabin overnights and kayak routes around red rock islands in between. A UNESCO site with plenty of space per visitor. Höga Kusten Trail (130 km) — Sweden's best long-distance trail.
Dalarna · Cross-country skiing, Skiing, MTB · Best time: Dec–Mar
The most famous ski track in the world: 90 km from Sälen to Mora, home of the Vasaloppet since 1922 — the oldest cross-country race there is. You don't have to race it — the original route is groomed all winter and can be skied in stages, classic or skate. Gentle climbs, lots of forest, frozen lakes. Nearly 250 km of groomed tracks fan out from the start in Sälen — the 90 km to Mora are just the most famous one.
Lappland · Skiing, Snowboarding · Best time: Feb–May
Sweden's northernmost ski resort only opens in late February, once the polar night is over — but in return you ski until late May. Cult status in the freeride scene: stable Arctic snow, 13 marked off-piste areas and heli-skiing over the border mountains to Norway. There are groomed runs too, but people come here for the terrain. From around May 22 the lift runs until midnight several times a week — skiing under the midnight sun.

Skåne's wild corner: a rocky peninsula with over 900 climbing routes right above the sea — one of northern Europe's biggest climbing areas, from beginner crags to hardcore walls. In between, sea kayak along the cliffs, explore caves and, with a bit of luck, spot porpoises off your bow. Plus 35 km of marked coastal hiking trails. Some of the roughly 20 caves can only be reached from the water — the kayak guides know the paddle-through rock gate.
Skåne, Kristianstad · Bouldering, Hiking
A nature reserve and open-access area east of Kristianstad. The municipality describes Kjugekull as a remnant of ancient bedrock with hilly, large-block terrain, partly wooded and partly pasture, and calls it internationally known for bouldering. There are two car parks with 50 spaces in total plus an accessible parking bay by the café, and two loop trails of 0.9 and 3.1 kilometres open up the area. Mushroom picking is allowed inside the reserve, except for wood-dwelling species. Arrive early or head straight for the second car park: the municipality lists only 50 parking spaces for the whole reserve.
Västra Hamnen, Malmö · Skateboarding, Bouldering · Best time: Apr–Oct
Skatepark in the Västra Hamnen dock district, built in 2005 on a former industrial site together with the Bryggeriet skate association and rebuilt several times since. The grounds also hold a skate cafe, a boulder park and roller derby space; the city lists four more outdoor skateparks in Malmö. When it rains or in winter, switch to the Bryggeriet indoor park near Seved — the city lists it as Malmö's indoor skatepark.
