The one principle no training works without long-term: the stimulus has to grow over time, otherwise adaptation stops.
Your body adapts to what it isn't used to. Once it is used to something, nothing happens — which is why people running the same program with the same weights for three years stall. But progressing doesn't automatically mean more weight. There are five dials: load, reps, sets, range of motion and tempo. For beginners the cleanest order is filling out the reps in your target range first, then adding load. And progression needs recovery — without sleep and calories, extra stimulus is just extra damage.
