Blank bale work is the first rung of the coaching ladder, ahead of aiming at all: technique before hits. The reason is uncomfortable — as long as a target face is there, your head grades every shot by the result rather than by the process. Take it away and attention lands where it belongs by itself. That is also why it is the fastest first aid against target panic. The classic mistake is impatience: five arrows blank, then back to the face because it gets boring — that boredom is the active ingredient. Two things that usually go unsaid: blank bale shooting has nothing to do with barebow, one is a drill and the other a bow class. And keep it close range at reduced draw weight, so a mistimed release stays harmless.
