Crossover

A cornering technique crossing the outside leg over the inside one — letting you hold or even build speed through a turn.

What matters

Crossovers are where skating stops being a balancing act and becomes technique. Instead of coasting through a turn and bleeding speed, every crossover generates new drive: the outside leg crosses in front of the inside one while the inside leg simultaneously pushes outward — both legs work, not just one. The classic beginner error is throwing the torso into the turn. What you want is to lean your centre of mass over the blades while keeping shoulders level, eyes looking where the turn leads. And bend your knees: an upright stance makes every crossover wobbly.
