The resistance you feel at the bar — your primary feedback on where the kite sits and how much power it's pulling.
Bar pressure comes through the back lines: pull the bar in and you increase the kite's angle of attack, giving it more power; push it away and the kite depowers. Kites differ a lot in how much feedback they transmit. High bar pressure suits beginners because you feel where the kite is without looking; low bar pressure tires the arms less and is preferred by freestylers. The classic beginner mistake is yanking the bar all the way in when panicking — that delivers maximum power, the exact opposite of what the reflex intends. Remember: bar away means less pull — and in a real emergency, only the quick release counts.
