The loop at the bottom of the bar that hooks into your harness and transfers the kite's pull to your hips.
The chicken loop is the reason kiting works for hours at a time: without it you'd have to hold the entire pull with your arms, which lasts a few minutes at best. It transfers load to the harness and therefore to your hips and core. The loop also carries the quick release — the emergency system that separates bar and kite from you. Two things worth internalising: check before every session that the release runs freely and isn't gummed up with sand, and practise firing it deliberately on land so the grip is automatic when it matters. The small retaining bar (donkey dick) stops the loop slipping out of the hook — but it's no substitute for control.
