The roll isn't a style choice, it's an answer to physics. Measured from a 0.75 m drop, a traditional landing produces about 5.2 body weights at a loading rate of 154.3 body weights per second; the roll only 2.9 at 64.1 — roughly 43 percent less force and 63 percent less loading rate. Time matters even more: with parkour technique the force peaks after around 80 milliseconds instead of 40. Your neuromuscular system needs about 50 milliseconds to respond, so anything peaking faster than that lands on you passively. The classic error is rolling over the spine instead of diagonally across the shoulder, and learning it on concrete rather than grass or a mat. The limit: a roll converts fall energy into forward travel, and that needs run-out space. In a corner or on a narrow ledge you simply don't have it.
