The umbrella term for clearing a wall under control with your hands on it. The entry-level version is the safety or step vault: one hand down, one foot between, step over.
The vault is the move outsiders recognise parkour by — and the one beginners overreach on fastest, because the names of the variants sound like difficulty tiers. They aren't: a safety vault is built for beginners, while other variants assume trained pulling and pressing strength and wrists that tolerate load. The name alone tells you nothing about the level. The most common technical fault is dragging your arms along instead of using them; in a vault they carry and steer your momentum. Before any of it comes the spot check: test the edge for stability and grip before you trust it with your weight, and warm up wrists, ankles and knees deliberately. One limit applies to every vault ever done: it doesn't end on the wall, it ends on the landing behind it. No vault is better than the landing that follows it.
