Goofy & Regular

Your stance on the board: regular rides left foot forward, goofy right foot forward. Neither is better.

What matters

Stance is a matter of wiring, not skill — about two thirds of board riders are regular. The quickest way to find yours is the push test: have someone nudge you gently from behind; the foot you catch yourself with is your back foot. Alternatively, note which foot you lead with when you run and slide on a wet surface. What matters is committing early rather than switching constantly — your brain learns one direction faster than two. Later on, deliberately swapping becomes its own skill, called riding switch in snowboarding or switch toeside in kiting.
