The honest answer: at a race duration of roughly 2 to 3 hours, every transition minute weighs proportionally more than at an Ironman — which is exactly why targeted practice here pays off disproportionately.
Take the flying mount: executed well, it saves between 15 and 30 seconds compared to a standard standing mount. Over a race that's just under three hours, that's a small but genuinely measurable advantage. The flying dismount at the transition line, on the other hand, only saves around 2 to 3 seconds — and at many races it's a real risk, since a botched attempt can mean a time penalty or even a crash. The math is simple: the benefit of a flying dismount is often smaller than the risk it carries.

That means more steps in T1, which need practice, or they cost more time than any flying technique ever saves.
