Dismount & Sticking the Landing

The final move of a routine and its most delicate moment: landing loads you with 7.1 to 15.8 times body weight, and every step afterwards costs execution points.

What matters

A botched dismount costs you twice: it counts towards your difficulty value, and every stumble afterwards takes another bite out of the execution score. It is also the most delicate moment of the routine — touchdown loads you with 7.1 to 15.8 times body weight, absorbed through ankle, knee, hip and trunk. The classic error is the stiff landing: refuse to let the joints work and you lose control and points in the same motion. So drill the landing position in isolation off a box and onto soft mats before you hang it on the end of a full routine, and build eccentric leg strength alongside it. The goal is widely misread: it isn't \"as soft as possible\". Gymnasts land measurably harder than recreational athletes, and less visible ground force does not automatically mean less load — internal joint loading can actually rise. What you want is control.
