Surfing in Peru

3 curated Surfing spots in Peru, each with its own note and source.

Lima / Miraflores

Lima · Best time: Year-round · Beginner

Waikiki, below the Miraflores cliffs, has a flat sand-and-pebble bottom that tempers the swell — the wave comes in fat and mushy, which is why most beginners start here. Makaha next door has three take-off zones and fewer people. May to August is the consistent window, when less rain also means less run-off. Go early; the wind picks up in the afternoon.

Máncora

Piura · Best time: Year-round · Beginner

A left-hand point over a cobblestone bottom whose shoulder doesn't run away from you, and it rarely gets crowded — fitting for beginners and intermediates working on long rides. South swells give the longest rides. The water stays warm year-round and locals mostly skip wetsuits. Smaller practice waves break at Pocitas and Vichayito.

Punta Rocas

Lima · Best time: Year-round · Advanced

An exposed reef break, mostly right-handers, that works on south-southwest swell with an offshore easterly — Surf-Forecast rates it very consistent and often crowded. Rips and rocks are the hazards, and the reef bottom makes it no place for a first surf.
