The scene centres on the city bay of Las Canteras: La Cicer, at the southern end of the promenade, has a sand bottom and consistent waves for beginners. At the far end, El Confital breaks as a right-hand reef over rock — experienced surfers only, with the strongest local presence in town. Swell season October to April.

Baskenland · Best time: Oct–Mar · Advanced
A left-hander peeling over a river-mouth sandbank, with hollow rides up to 200 m. It only comes together an estimated 50 to 70 times a year, peaking between late September and late November, and needs a low tide past the turn — otherwise the undertows get wild. Rips are unpredictable and localism is heavy.

Zarautz is a beach break running the whole length of the town: the western end has the best protection and usually breaks a foot or so smaller, while the east offers multiple peaks with steep drops and hollow sections. It takes northwest, north and west swell; summer sits in the 2 to 6 foot range, with spring and autumn the best seasons.
