Arugam Bay

Ostprovinz · Best time: May–Sep · All levels

Main Point is a right-hand point over a reef shelf with rides of roughly 50 to 150 m; its inside section, Baby Point, runs mellow and is where beginners sit. The season is April to September, and the place gets packed around August. Crocodiles live in the nearby lagoons.

Mirissa

Südprovinz · Best time: Nov–Apr · Beginner

The main wave is a right-hand reef that works on every tide except full low — fun, but shallow and with urchins clinging to the rocks below; best for intermediates, and usually with a crowd out. There's a small beginner zone on the beach, though learners do better in Weligama. Season runs November to March.

Unawatuna

Southern · Best time: Nov–Apr · Beginner

The curved bay just south of Galle holds a reef break with both a left and a right when the swell lines up, plus a beach break that stays manageable for learners. The season runs November to April, cleanest in January and February.

Weligama

Südprovinz · Best time: Nov–Apr · Beginner

A 2 km crescent bay with a mellow beach break over sand — the inside is the learners' zone, further out there's just enough size for improvers; a longboard spot with plenty of surf schools. Season October to April, most consistent November to March, cleanest in the morning, typically 2 to 5 feet.
