Rocha · Best time: Dec–Mar · Beginner
An exposed beach break: waves break both left and right and hold their shape around low tide, ideally on a southwest swell with an offshore east-northeast wind. Autumn and winter are the favoured seasons. Rips are strong enough to make it dangerous, though the peak rarely gets crowded even when it is working.

Maldonado · Best time: Mar–Sep · All levels
A point and rivermouth break over sand with rocks mixed in; the waves go both right and left. It works best on a south swell with an offshore north-northwest wind around low tide. The southern winter delivers the most reliable days, June above all — forecast statistics put clean surfable waves at about 20% of the time then. Mind the rocks in the line-up.

Rocha · Best time: Dec–Apr · Beginner
The headland splits almost ten kilometres of coast into separate peaks: rights at Corumbá, lefts and rights at Los Botes and Zanja Honda, a left at La Balconada. La Aguada, right by town, is a sheltered beach break that goes both ways and works on a south swell with an offshore west wind around low tide. Mind the stone reefs at Los Botes and Zanja Honda.

Rocha · Best time: Mar–Nov · All levels
Surf splits between two bays: Playa del Rivero, the most consistent spot, a right-hand point off the rocky headland that suits every level over its sandy bottom, and the main beach by the fishing boats with beach break peaks over shifting sandbars. It works best from mid to high tide. May to October brings the bigger swells; December to April stays more manageable.
