Watamu

Kilifi · Best time: Oct–Mar · Beginner

Watamu has been a marine reserve since 1968, the first in Africa. Dives cover hard-coral gardens — over 100 species, with little soft coral because of the swell — plus the Mida wreck, an 18 m prawn trawler. October to March is the main window: calm seas, water around 28 °C and visibility averaging 20 m.
