Lagodekhi-Nationalpark

Kachetien · Best time: Jul–Oct · All levels

Four marked routes start at the information centres: 9 km to Rocho waterfall (easy), 8 km to Ninoskhevi waterfall, 10 km to Machi fortress, and 42 km over three days to Black Rock Lake (hard, first day 12 km and 480 m of ascent to the Meteo shelter). The fortress trail follows the Azerbaijani border, so carry ID.

Svaneti / Mestia

Mingrelien · Best time: Jun–Sep · All levels

Mestia to Ushguli covers 56.9 km over three to four days: day one is 16.1 km with 763 m of ascent, day two only 10.6 km but 909 m. Village guesthouses make a tent unnecessary. The season runs from early June to late October, and the glacier-fed river at Adishi should be crossed in the morning before the water rises.

Tuschetien

Kachetien · Best time: Jun–Sep · All levels

There is no public transport to Omalo; the jeep ride from Kvemo Alvani takes over four hours. Omalo to Shatili is 75 km over four to five days across the 3,431 m Atsunta pass, with a permit and border posts on the way. The pass usually opens in late June, and July and August are the safe months. Two shelters have stood since 2024 but are not always open, so pack a tent.
