The entry trick on boxes and rails: straight across, board flat, weight centred. The boardslide grows out of it later — a 90-degree turn across the feature.
Rails carry the lowest injury rate of any park feature — 0.43 injuries per 1,000 runs against 2.56 for jumps and halfpipe. That's exactly why the 50-50 is the sensible way into jibbing: straight across, no spin, no edge. The two typical mistakes almost always show up together — too little speed and mounting on an edge. Too slow means balancing for longer than your technique can carry; on an edge means the feature pulls you off sideways. So switch deliberately to a flat base just before you get on, eyes and shoulders forward towards the exit, weight over the middle of the bindings. What often gets missed: boxes are wider and flatter than rails and the better first contact. And if your balance goes, step off to the side immediately instead of fighting to hold on.
